A follow-up question asked of everyone, every time, makes a form tedious. Conditional Logic shows a question only when an earlier answer calls for it, so the form stays short for the usual case.
This guide opens an existing form, adds a follow-up question, makes it appear for one answer, tests it in Preview, and saves it. To build a form in the first place, see Create a form.
Step 1
Open the form for editing
In the side menu, click Forms, then Management. Find your form, click its ⋮ menu, then click Edit. Clicking the form itself opens it to fill in, not to edit.
Step 2
Add the follow-up question
Click Add field, and type the follow-up question people should answer.
Step 3
Make it conditional
Open Conditional Logic, at the bottom of the question. Choose the question it depends on, then the answer that should show it. The line underneath reads the rule back in plain words, so check it says what you meant.
Step 4
Test it in Preview
Click Done, then Preview. Rules don't run while you're building, so Preview is where you test them. Try both answers: the follow-up should stay hidden for one and appear for the other.
Step 5
Save it
Click Edit to go back to the builder, then click Save Form.
Step 6
Check the rule saved
Open the saved form from the list and give the answer that shows the follow-up. If it appears, the rule saved with the form. Answering it starts a draft response, so discard it once you've checked.
